In an instant, little Yolanda's world changes forever: her mother dies. The adults don't want to talk about it. Everyone experiences the loss in their own way. Yolanda, however, is not at peace with it. Mum is gone - but to where? Unable to fully understand what has just happened, she decides to look for her herself.
'Everywhere and Everything' is a poignant story about loss and coming to terms with it. Its protagonist, little Yolanda, is relentless in her search for her dead mother. She finds traces of her around her - and changes the reality not only of herself, but also of her loved ones, making it easier for them to open up and accept that a loved one is no longer with them.
Pimm van Hest's poetic text, which approaches a difficult subject with great sensitivity, is complemented by the atmospheric illustrations by Sassafras de Bruyn. The book will make it easier both to talk to a child about the death of a loved one and to familiarise them with the concept of death; although Yolanda's mother is no longer with us, a part of her will always remain in what she left behind and in the memory of those who were lucky enough to know her.
Review:
The main character Yolanda's mother dies. The girl wants to find out where she is now, but each person she meets answers her question in a different way. Her dad says her mum is in the picture she painted, her aunt says she is in her memories and her grandfather feels her presence in the rose garden she planted. Yolanda puts together her own answer from these different points of view and then finally achieves peace. , 'Everywhere and in Everything' is a picturebook that absolutely delights from both the visual side, but also in no way detracts from the content as a whole. It is a small work of art that attempts to tackle one of the more challenging topics in literature in the best possible form. In its definition of death, it does not refer to the spiritual aspects, which for children
could be too difficult and abstract and incomprehensible. He explains that the presence of the dead can be individually considered by everyone in a different way.
